Lecture Topic: 50 Shades of White – The hidden danger of factory-related contaminants on sterile-packaged implants
Abstract :
Neither the announcement of legal action against the publication of analysis results nor threats against the investigating scientists change anything about the findings: A recent study on the quality assessment of sterile-packaged titanium-made and ceramic implants, conducted in collaboration with Charité – University Medicine Berlin, revealed an alarming number of dental implants with factory related contaminants among the more than 100 samples examined.
Thus, even perfect treatment planning can be compromised by using implants with significant residual pollutants, leading to unwanted foreign body reactions, peri-implantitis, and even implant failure. The lecture illustrates the nature and extent of the findings, describes clinical consequences for patients and shows how every practitioner can avoid such risks.
